A Symbol that Speaks in Dualities
The symbolism of the Yin-Yang has long captivated me—not only for its visual grace but for what it represents: the harmony of opposites. Light and dark, softness and strength, tradition and innovation. It’s more than a symbol; it’s a philosophy. That’s why I chose to incorporate it into one of my signature design elements: the Yin-Yang button.
From Concept to Craft
For me, the Yin-Yang button is not simply a decorative flourish. It’s a visual expression of my journey as an artist. My creative process has always revolved around exploring tension and contrast—whether in fabric and form, or in the thematic layers of my art.
In paintings like The Geishabride (2014) and Self-Portrait I & II, I examined female archetypes such as the geisha and the bride. These roles, steeped in tradition, often idealize and objectify femininity. My works critique and celebrate them simultaneously, embracing contradiction as a space for truth. That same contradiction lives within the Yin-Yang symbol—and within the buttons themselves.
